Mondays suck (oh yeah and some lessons learned for you young cooks out there)

Not only am I not a fan of Mondays (who is?), but also Ryan is on the west coast way far, far away leaving me to fend for myself. speaking of fending for myself, i still wonder how he trusts me unsupervised while cooking after the "garlic" incident. I won't completely elaborate on this fiasco from when i first started cooking on my own, but will clue you in on my lesson's learned....

lesson 1 learned: olive oil has a low smoke point.
lesson 2 learned: always have ALL your veggies chopped before you add ANYTHING to a hot pan. especially if the first thing you put in the pan is garlic.
lesson 3 learned: garlic burns easily and smells AWFUL when burnt.
lesson 4 learned: when freaking out that the fire alarm is going off while house-sitting at your sister's, don't punch in the panic code to shut off the noise cuz the police will come (thinking you're in some trouble)
lesson 5 learned: don't lie to you sister about the police coming even if you are embarrassed by your stupidity cuz that will only piss her off more

to any of you other young cooks out there, I tell you this so that you won't have to go through the embarrassment I did (plus at every family gathering the story tends to come up followed by a roar of laughter). it took me some time to recover and no longer freak out at the slightest sight of smoke/steam in the kitchen (so pavlovian of me)!

anyway...all this rambling only to say that I ate some of the yummy leftovers from the weekend because i was tired and could use a little more of the Polish comfort food. tomorrow i'm thinking i will make my chicken salad lettuce wraps (ryan isn't a huge chicken salad fan so this is a great time to get this craving out of my system).....
